Music for the People: An Ed Sullivan Fellows Benefit
NYU Music Education is proud to co-host benefit concert Music for the People for our Ed Sullivan Fellows (ESF) Program. ESF is NYU’s community arts mentorship lab for young musicians and supports creatives ages 14-23 in building music and industry skills to explore, develop, and launch their creative careers. Now in its second year, the Ed Sullivan Fellows Program is a joint project of the NYU Music Experience Design Lab (MusEDLab), the Program in Music Education, and NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development with the express purpose of serving the needs of young artists of color growing up in New York City.

Each Fellow enjoys personalized mentorship that supports and monitors their progress over the course of their time in the program, as well as unprecedented access to music industry resources at NYU and in NYC. Access is one of the main issues faced by young adults not currently enrolled in a four-year college due to attrition, financial constraint, and disconnect with career goals. Core Fellows are guided through arts-based entrepreneurial curriculum, and are supported through the college application, enrollment, and re-entry processes, keeping them on track to meet and surpass their professional goals.

This benefit concert will feature our original music by our Fellows alongside NYC hip-hop and Neo-Soul musicians John RobinsonOSHUN, and Steff Reed. Amadeus (music director for Trey Songz) and Toni Blackman (artist/producer/activist) will host the event scheduled to be held at the Frederick Loewe Theatre, 35 West 4th Street Friday, August 4, 2017, 7:00 PM-9:30 PM. Special guest appearance by the Reverend Al Sharpton speaking about diversity in higher education and music education!
